OurSaviors of Uldum Secret Highlander Hunter Deck Guidetakes a look at the top meta deck list for this popular archetype. Singleton decks are back on the menu, and Hunter is setup to be one of the classes that can potentially take advantage of them!
A Hunter Highlander deck has not really existed in any serious form in the past. However, Hunter has been one of the strongest classes for the last expansion or two, and that usually means it has quite a few strong cards available to it. With that being the case, it makes sense that the class will be able to take advantage of the reintroduction of this type of style.Dinotamer Brannwhile not being the strongest singleton card, is still quite powerful and allows you to take advantage of the power ofKing Krushwithout actually playing it in your deck!

General Gameplay Tips
The name of the game with most singleton type decks is to weather the storm. We don’t always have reliable openings due to the composition of these decks, so we’re trying to survive until we can get deeper into the deck and find additional resources. We have some pretty good early game with bothShimmerflyandSecretkeeperkeeping us afloat against aggressive decks.
If you aren’t aware of whatZephrys the Greatactually does, then let me explain it a bit. It gives you a choice of three cards that fit the current board state. It does NOT factor in cards that are in your hand, but it does take into account the current mana you have, your opponent’s life total, and what minions are on the board. You can influence the card you receive by manipulating your current mana pool and the board. It can give you a card from any class, as long as the card is part of the Basic or Classic set. So, if you are staring down a board that has a bunch of 4-health minions and you have 7-mana left after you play Zephrys, you are going to see at least oneFlamestrikeas an option. If your opponent is at 6-health and you have 4-mana left after you play Zephrys, you are going to very likely see aFireball. The card will emphasize looking for lethal, so waiting to play this into the late game is usually going to be the best choice.
Hyena Alphajust seems incredibly powerful on its face. So much so thatTrump(Hearthstone content creator), was running two of them in his highlander deck. He figures that he has a 70% chance to draw it before needing the additional copy out of his deck to playDinotamer Brann(it also turns off Zephrys). It should be noted that you’re able to have two copies of a card in your deck as long as they are out of the deck when you want to play a card that requires only singles. You’ll know you meet this requirement if the card is glowing yellow in your hand.
This deck runs quite a few spells, so if we can get to the late game thenZul’jinis going to be very powerful. Try to play as many of those powerful spells prior to playing the card so we can get the most value out of it.
Other Card Choices
The nature of singleton/highlander decks is there ability to be customized. While some key cards like Zephrys are likely going to be required, you can usually get away with replacing many different cards and still have a solid deck on your hands.
You can toy around with the secret package as much as you want. It largely depends on the meta, so some of thee options will go in and out of the deck. The bonus of having unpredictable secrets is that your opponent will have a hard time predicting exactly what you will be playing.
