Ascending characters in Genshin Impact is essentially increasing their current max level. Players must max out their current level to acquire Ascension Materials. Once players get to Adventurer Rank 15, they are able to start ascending characters.
With the exception of the Traveler who requires the Brilliant Diamonds materials set, different characters require different Ascension Materials depending on their element. These materials include Elemental Gems, Enemy Drop Materials, and Local Specialty Materials.
Elemental Gems

Gems with a higher rarity—with the exception of Brilliant Diamonds—can be combined with lower rarity materials of the same element by crafting them via Alchemy. Players must increase their Adventure Rank to the required level to unlock the ability to craft some materials.Fragmentsrequire Adventure Rank 25,Chunksrequire Adventure Rank 35, andGemstonesrequire Adventure Rank 45.
To get all four Brilliant Diamond rarities, just get to a specific Adventure Rank, then go to the Adventurer’s Guild inMondstadtorLiyueand claim the reward.
Players can obtain all four rarities of Agnidus Agate by defeating the Boss Pyro Regisvine on all World Levels, and they can buy it from shops, defeating Bosses, and Converting.
Players can obtain all four rarities of Vajrada Amethyst by defeating the Electro Hypostasis Boss on all World Levels and completing Trounce Domains, Alchemy, and Converting.
Players can obtain all four rarities of Vayuda Turquoise by defeating the Anemo Hypostasis Boss on all World Levels and completing Trounce Domains, Alchemy, and Converting.
Players can obtain all four rarities of Shivada Jade by defeating the Boss Cryo Regisvine on all World Levels, and they can buy it from shops, defeating Bosses, and Converting.
Players can obtain all four rarities of Prithiva Topaz by defeating the Boss Geo Hypostasis on all World Levels, and they can buy it from shops, defeating Bosses, and Converting.
Local Specialties
Local Specialties are extremely helpful in regards to ascending characters, weapons, and crafting potions. Some materials can only be found in the wild. Characters from Mondstadt will require materials found there, and characters from Liyue will require materials found in Liyue. Local Specialtiesrespawn every two daysafter looting them based on the time spent harvesting them, not the server reset time. Players should be sure to mark the locations on their maps once found to remember where to go!

Enemy Drop Materials
Normal Boss enemies will drop rewards for defeating them, along with certain Character Ascension Materials, depending on the level and type of the boss.
